Grade 2 celebrates Native American Indian Month

Grade 2 celebrated Native American Indian Month by learning

 about Indian culture, customs and songs.

They learned 2 songs entitled the Navajo Happy Song and the Totem song. 

They also learned about the origin of totem poles and are seen here coloring a few of their own. 

Grade 4 World Music Instrument Presentations

4th grade has been studying instruments from around the world. 

Each student researched a folk instrument from a different country.

Here they are seen sharing some of their findings with their classmates. 

Grade 1 Boomwhackers 

1st grade is using Boomwhackers to learn to read notes in music.

They are color-coded and correspond to the note names they are reading.

The two songs featured in these videos are Banana Phone

and The Lion Sleeps Tonight.

                                    Grade 2: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Grade 2 learned and sang a song about MLK entitled "Sing About Martin."

They added a flare rhythmically, improvising with various percussion instruments.

Grade 1 also celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. using an Echo Song.

Grade 6 Percussion Instruments with Salsa Music

After learning to play the individual instruments of the percussion family,

Grade 6 collaborated as an ensemble including their respective parts. 

 Week of January 11th

Grade 8

Music and Science

Grade 8 combined music and science this week in an acoustics experiment.

While blowing into straws of different lengths, 

they were tasked with a hypothesis to prove while learning about amplitude, 

sound waves, frequency, decibels and timbre. 

Grade 6

Percussion Instruments

Grade 6 has been studying instruments in the percussion family.

Here they learn to play various instruments used in salsa music.

Collectively, they coordinate their rhythms in an ostinato pattern. 

 

Grade 1

Musical Chairs

Grade 1 is seen here with a new favorite activity: Musical Chairs "with a twist".

They use songs to learn about animals, colors, and math.

Cards are placed on each chair with a math problem. 

If they can solve the math equation when they land on their chair, 

they avoid being eliminated from the round.
