Week of January 6th, 2020

At this year's opening faculty meeting, Mike D'Angelo, father of Gabe D'Angelo (Grade 2 student) shared a Mindfulness presentation with the faculty and staff. After a brief introduction and tutorial, Grade 4 began embracing mindfulness meditation as a warm-up in class to assist them in clearing them minds and centering their focus. Observe in the following students, their first attempts to find their inner peace and a place of Zen.

Grade 1, as part of their study of classical composers, began studying Mozart's overture to The Marriage of Figaro. They learned the structure of the piece, added lyrics which included making a soup by "Chef Figaro". Here is a brief video of them performing the piece as their develop their culinary skills. They topped it off by adding percussion instruments to emphasize the different melodic, rhythmic and tempo changes in the varying parts of the piece.

Grade 2 also  began studying classical composers this week. Their first lesson began getting to know the French composer, Claude Debussy. After acquiring some biographical knowledge, they listened to a piece entitled The Snow is Dancing, a piano instrumental from his work entitled The Children's Corner. Here they enact various adaptations of how they might envision snow falling.
