Create Your Own Xylophone!

1st grade is learning about the relationship of Solfege syllables 
and the color coding of xylophones.
Here they design their own xylophones to reinforce their 
comprehension of the syllables that correspond to the colors.

Singing on Pitch with Boomwhackers

Grade 2 is learning to sing on pitch using boomwhackers.
Here they are learning the song Winter Wonderland.




Who Stole the Cookies from the Cookie Jar?

Kindergarten is learning echos.
They are also learning to keep a steady beat and

Week of February 17th, 2020

Keeping Time with the Orff method
Carl Orff, a German composer and music educator believed that children could 
learn music and to play instruments almost instantaneously by involving them.
His motto was: 
"Tell me, I forget, 
show me, I remember, 
involve me, I understand."

Kindergarten students are learning dynamics (or volume levels).
They recite a lullaby from Thailand entitled Sleep Baby Sleep.
They are distinguishing between loud and soft sounds using instruments. 








Sacrament of Reconciliation
Several 2nd graders received the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Wed. February 19th.
Here a few of them lead the assembly gathered, in song, readings, petitions and prayer.








Black History Month Composers and Performers 

As we celebrate Black History Month, Grade 3 is learning about
African-American composers and performers.
They completed listening glyphs about Marian Anderson, the opera singer.
They also learned about song form and structure with 
Pharell William's song "Happy".

The Beat is the Heart of Music
In honor of Valentine's Day, Grade 2 is learning how the beat is the heart of music.
Here they practice delineating Valentine phrases by indicating the rhythm
of the words using popsicle sticks.

Making Connections
This week in honor of Black History Month, 1st grade is learning about famous African-Americans. They studied about George Washington Carver, a scientist and inventor who is
 often attributed with inventing peanut butter. That is a myth. 
He did however invent 102 products associated with peanut butter. 
Here the 1st grade is learning a catchy song entitled Peanut Butter and Jelly. 







Italian Music
This week 4th grade is learning about Italian Music.
They were introduced to instruments such as the cello, mandolin and accordion. 
They also learned about Italian dances such as the Tarantella.

Week of February 3rd, 2020


Is it High or Low?
Grade 1 is learning to sing high vs. low.
They are also learning to distinguish sounds in our environment 
and determine whether they are high or low in pitch.

First they learn using a drum then they learn by using various body parts.

Student Tutorial
Grades 6 and 7 Music Class had a joint session with the Grade 1 gym class.
The older students began to teach the younger students some of the basic exercises
they began in September using bean bags and racket balls. 
They worked in small groups and quadrants to develop their skill set.
