Valentine's Compositions

1st graders are learning to become composers.

They used words associated with Valentine's Day

to create their own sequences to form a Valentine's Composition.

Body Percussion

Grade 1 also worked on rhythm and keeping a steady beat.

Here they practiced with a video from the Lion King,

"I Just Can't Wait to Be King" using body percussion.

Reading Great Books About Jazz

February is Black History Month and a time when most music classes are studying

African-American musicians, performers, vocalists and art forms.

Grade 2 is learning about Jazz through great books.

They listened to an audio version of  Jazz Age Josephine by Jonah Winter

Here they discovered how dance as a genre is as much a part of jazz as other art forms.

Here they colored their own tiny dancer to remind them of the story  they heard.

Grade 6: Learning Jazz History via Rap

6th grade is learning about Jazz History.

They studied a new art form, learning terminology and

stylistic techniques via a Rap Song.
